Belarus

Of course, a lot can be said about Belarus and its history, but I’ll limit my story to a few words about its geographical features, industry, education and culture.

Belarus is situated almost in the centre of Europe. It borders on Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and the Ukraine.

The climate of the country is moderately continental. The landscape of Belarus is very picturesque. It is a land of vast plains and green hills, big forests and meadows. The country is rich in water resources. There are thousands of lakes and rivers on the territory of Belarus. The biggest of the lakes is Lake Naroch. The longest rivers are the Nieman, the West Dvina, the Prypyat and the Sozh. A third of Belarus is covered with forests. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is the biggest and the most beautiful national park of the country.

Today a few millions of acres of land are used for arable farming. The chief crops are potatoes, flax, rye and various fodder grasses.

Belarus is a country of developed industry, education and culture. Its biggest enterprises produce tractors and lorries, refrigerators and TV sets. The country has more than 30 higher educational establishments. About 80 per cent of the country’s population are Belarusians. Among other nationalities inhabiting the country are Russians, Poles, Ukrainians, Tatars and others. The official languages of the country are the Belarusian and Russian language.

The capital of our republic is Minsk – one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in the world.

I love my country and I would like to vive there with my family long and happy life.

Belarus

The republic of Belarus is a small beautiful country. It is situated in Eastern Europe. The republic borders on Russia, the Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. It has an area of 207,000 square kilometers and a population of about 10 million.

Belarus is a broad plain. But there are hills on its territory. The highest one is Dzierzhinsky hill.There are 3000 rivers in Belarus.They flow into the Baltic Sea or the Black Sea. The longest of them are the Dnieper, the Neman the Western Dvina, the Pripyat, the Sozh, the Bug.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland consists of four formerly independent countries. They are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh, the capital of Wales is Cardiff, the capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast and the capital of England is London. The country is surrounded by seas on all sides and is separated from the continent by the English Channel and the Strait of Dover. The British Isles consist of more than 5,000 small islands. The biggest of them is Great Britain.

The Republic I Live in

I was born in Belarus and have lived here even since. I have always been interested in the history of my homeland.

Though the history of Belarusian statehood goes back to ancient times, the world community has discovered this nation only recently. Belarus used to be one of the republics of the former USSR and wasn’t represented in the world as an independent political and economic formation. At present Republic of Belarus is a sovereign, independent state with its own government, constitution, state emblem, flag and anthem.

Belarus is a member of the CIS (Community of Independent States) and one of the United Nations Organization founder members.

The Pros and Cons of Using the Internet

Advertisements for the Internet promise you a world of information, entertainment, on-line shopping and e-mail services. However, the real world of the Internet may not be as perfect as the advertisements suggest.

Using the Internet offers many advantages. For example, all of the latest information is available to you, in your home, at any hour of the day or night. It is much faster and easier to surf the net in search of information from all over the world than to travel to libraries in dozens of countries. Also, on-line shopping makes it possible to search through catalogues to find exactly what you want at the best price, saving both time and money. By joining a newsgroup or chat group, you can share your hobbies and special interests, and perhaps make friends all over the world. Finally, e-mail is popular because it is faster than sending a letter and cheaper than a telephone conversation.

On the other hand, the Internet has several disadvantages. Firstly, with so much information available, finding what you want can take you hours. Multimedia web pages with photographs, music and video are attractive, but they make downloading slow and boring. What is more, there is too much advertising instead of real information. As for Internet friendships, sitting at home in front of a computer making 'chat friends' is not the same as actually meeting people.

In conclusion, the Internet obviously has both good and bad points. Fortunately, the system is improving all the time, and any problems which still exist can be solved. Whether we like it or not, the Internet is here to stay, so we have to make the best possible use of it.
