Customs and traditions of Belarus

  1. Now let’s talk about customs and traditions. What can you tell me about your favourite holiday in Belarus?

Belarus has deep historical roots in the past that’s why its customs and traditions often have a fascinating history. The most ancient Belarusian traditions and holidays can be classified according to 4 seasons of the year: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

My  favourite holidays are Christmas and New Year in winter. My favourite New Year tradition has been receiving and giving presents since my childhood when gifts were put under the Christmas-tree for me and I believed it was Father Frost who brought them while I was sleeping. To my mind, giving gifts to all the members of the family adds to love and affection in it and helps to forget minor quarrels and misunderstandings. Secondly, it creates the atmosphere of joy and magic.

The Belarusian people have always remembered and tried to celebrate their national holidays, customs and traditions.

  1. Would you like to take part in a British holiday celebration? Why?

Every country has its customs and traditions. I like to learn something new about other countries. I would like to take part in a British holiday “Halloween”. To my mind it’s funny to dress up in costumes and go from door to door where you knock on the door and yell “Trick or treat!” And it’s more pleasant to eat all the sweets you were given.

  1. What questions can you ask a British teenager about his/her best school celebration?
  1. What is your best school celebration?
  2. What was the most exciting moment?
  3. Do you celebrate it annually?
  4. Were there a lot of guests?
  5. Do you like this holiday?
  1.  What good manners will you recommend a British tourist to follow in Belarus?

There are some rules foreign people should follow visiting Belarus. The first rule to remember is that our country has right hand traffic (you should  drive on the right), you should be polite and don’t throw the rubbish everywhere. There are special places for smoking in our country. Belarusians are proud of their nature and take care about it. And of course, you should obey government’s laws not to have problems with the police.

  1. Do you think it is easy to organize a good party? What mistakes do people sometimes make?

I think that to organize a good party is not so easy, because you need to consider all the details and be sure to make a list of guests, food and drinks, contests and so on. So you should check whether you have enough dishes, forks, cups and plates. Sometimes people forget about it and it is the main mistake. And sometimes it is difficult to make all the guests glad and relaxed.
