MODERN MEANS OF COMMUNICATION

  1. Let’s talk about modern means of communication. Which of them do your family like?

Modern technology is rapidly spreading all over the Earth. Every office is equipped with a personal computer, an answer-phone, a fax-machine and a photocopier. Every teenager is able to use a video recorder, a camera or an MP3 player.

The most popular means of communication nowadays is the mobile phone. In Albania it is not usual to sea an older person riding a donkey while talking on a mobile phone. In India you can see a beggar making or talking a call on a cell phone. Advanced models of mobile phones enable users to access the Internet, send and receive e-mail and text messages, watch TV, listen to music, take photos, navigate by the Global Positioning System and Phone.

  1. Is there any means of communication you can’t live without? Why (not)?

I can’t live without my mobile phone. It is vitally important for me. With its help I can communicate with my friends, read books, play games, listen to music and chat the Internet. I understand that a lot of people, not only teenagers, are dependent on the mobile phone. They can’t do a step without it. For many people the thought of being out of contact for even an hour is unbearable.

  1. What questions will you ask people who live without a TV-set, computer or radio?
  1. What do you do in your spare time?
  2. Where do you get the news from?
  3. Have you got a lot of friends or relatives to communicate with?
  1. Writing letters is one of the means of communication. Unfortunately, many people are losing this skill. Can you advise me how to write a good letter?

Letters to your family or friends are like conversations. You can write a letter to thank someone, congratulate them, share family and school news, pass on interesting information, describe what’s been happening, or tell funny stories.

The great thing about a letter is that you can read it over and over again.

It’s important to remember that the letter has special structure: heading (where you write your name and address), date, greeting(where you say hello), content (the main part of the letter), closing (the way you end the letter) and signature (where you sign your name). Some letters may have postscript (you can put there anything you forgot to say).

  1. Can the Internet replace all the other means of communication. What is your point of view?

I think it can’t. a lot of people use the Internet nowadays for communication, work and entertainment. But the most popular means of communication, as I have said, is the mobile phone. The Internet is only a mean of getting something, but we need a lot of accessories to use it. So, it can’t replace any other means of communication.
