Mass media

  1. Let’s talk about mass media: TV, newspapers, radio. Which of these does your family use? Why?

It goes without saying that mass media has become part and parcel of any contemporary society. The press, radio and television play a very important part in the life of the society. They inform, educate and entertain people. They also influence the way people look at the world and make them change their views.

Which concerns my family, my parents like to read newspapers. My parents prefer to read our local newspaper “Lepelski Krai” and “Respublica”. These newspapers contain and give coverage of local, home and foreign affairs.

We all like to watch TV. I like educational programs such as “How it is made”, my mum likes soap operas and dad likes detective films and the news.

We listen to the radio only when we travel by car.

  1. Do you think all means of communication will exist in the future? Why (not)?

Yes, I do. The most exciting and entertaining kind of mass media is television. It brings moving pictures and sounds directly to people’s home. So one can see events in faraway places just sitting in his / her chair.

Radio is widespread for its portability. It means that radios can easily be carried around. People like listening to the radio on the bench or picnic, while driving a car or just walking down the street. The main kind of radio entertainment is music.

Newspapers can present and comment on the news is much detail in comparison to radio and TV newscasts. Magazines provide more profound analysis of events of proceeding week.

  1. What questions will you ask people who live without a TV-set, computer or radio?
  1. Do you read newspapers or magazines?
  2. Do you buy or prescribe them?
  3. What newspapers do you read?
  4. Are you successes with the information from the press?
  1. My cousin spends a lot of time chatting in Contact and it makes all the family angry. What can you advise him and the family to do in this situation?

Nowadays teenagers spend a lot of time in social networks. Some young people educate themselves, but other only waste time. I can advise you to speak with your cousin and try to convince him to go to his friends and communicate with them in reality. His parents can make a schedule of using a computer or use a parental check.

  1. Nowadays many people don’t write letters as often as in the past. Do you think it’s true?

In today’s Internet and e-mail society, the need to write a letter arises less often than in the past. Life is very fast. In a modern world practically everyone has a mobile phone and computer. It is much faster for people to phone or to write an e-mail. Nowadays people write letters and send postcards to distant relatives from another country or of it is an official or formal letter.
