Leisure time

  1. Let’s talk about your free time activities. What are your hobbies?

Hundreds of years ago there was no problem of what working people could do in their free time. Their hours of work were so long that they had hardly any leisure. Nowadays it’s very difficult to name all the activities, entertainments and hobbies run by people in their free time.

I have several hobbies which I enjoy doing after school, both indoors and outdoors. Sometimes I wonder how I fit them all into my schedule because I have a lot of homework. Every day I have not much time to relax. In that period I usually rest after hard school day, listen to music, watch TV or read books. I like listening to music. I like different kinds of music and may listen from rock music to classical. It depends on my mood.

I like watching TV, though my parents not very happy about my spending hours in front of the telly. I agree that there are many mindless programs, but I, of course, watch TV selectively and have my own preferences. I like to watch some sports programs, quiz shows and the news. And I like scientific programs, though some of them require background knowledge to enjoy them completely.

I like reading. Books bring me pleasure and delight. Thanks to books we learn to express our thoughts and feelings more exactly and, of course, books are the richest source of information. Sometimes my friends and I exchange opinions about books, speak about them, exchange books. Among my favourite books are fantasy, philosophy and detective books.

  1. Do you find it useful to read books? Why (not)?

A proverb says: “A house looks gloom and joyless without books”. And I fully agree with it. There are a lot of genres of books, there are books to read when you are ill and books to read when your brains want something to work at; there are books that you have always wanted to read at the sea; there are books taken only for bad weather.

Reading is a useful hobby, as some books teach us to live, some entertain and give pleasure, some are very helpful in different situations. Reading makes us read, enjoy, live hero’s life and suffer together, be engrossed in a good book. A reader lives richer life than a non-reader, because a new unknown before and gripping world is opened for him.

  1. What questions will you ask a British teenager to find out what kind of reader he/ she is?
  1. Do you like to read?
  2. What books do you read?
  3. How often do you read?
  4. What is your favourite book?
  1. Many parents don’t like the music their children listen to . They often argue about it. What can you advise them to do to get along with each other?

Contemporary music is not so bad as some parents can think. It is necessary to sit near their children and listen to it attentively. Their texts reflect modern world, but sometimes it’s more interesting to listen to sounds of music, but not the text of the song.

  1. Do you think it is possible to enjoy yourself without spending money?

Yes, of course. Many people make things as a hobby. Making things include drawing, painting, making sculpture, designing costume, handicrafts.

Hobbies differ like tastes, but no matter what kind of hobby a person has, he always has an opportunity of learning something from it. And learning things can be the most exciting aspect of a hobby.
