Family relations

  1. Let’s talk about your family. Why is family important for you?

It’s common knowledge that the family is a very important unit in our society. Understanding between all members of the family is very important in family relations.

The family is a crucial instrument for the development of a child’s personality. It’s vitally important for every child to live in a friendly and happy family.

In united families parents are honest with their children without moralizing and bossing them around, and children in their turn learn how to get on with other people. Members of such families treat one another with understanding and compassion. They always share domestic shores. Children living in such families feel safe at home. They trust parents, share their secrets and problems with them, ask parents for useful advice and rely on them.

If to speak about my family, I do appreciate it that my parents trust and respect me, rely on me. In my turn, I try to help them with household chores. I share my joys and sorrows with them. I’m happy to say that my home is the place where everybody understands, respects and loves me. To my mind, this is the way things should be in any family.

  1. Are there any family traditions that you follow?

We have some family traditions. Apart from observing national holidays we celebrate the birthdays of each member of the family, give presents to each other on the New Year day and on some other special occasions. It’s also our family tradition to spend summer vocation together. Even this year after my examinations we’ll spend a weekend at the seaside together.

  1. What will you ask a British teenager about his/her relatives?
  1. Have you got a nuclear or extended family?
  2. What traditions have you got in the family?
  3. What your family means to you?
  1. What can you advise people who want to have a good relations with their parents and grandparents?

I can advise to spend more time together, to talk about their problems and troubles. Members of strong families show each other affection (привязанность) and appreciation (понимание). People in the family should trust (доверять) to one another and when the problem arise, they should work together to solve it.

  1. They say that parents and children have difficulties understanding each other because of the generation gap. What do you think about this problem?

Talk about “generation gap” has been exaggerated. A lot of parents want their children to be creative and question what is around them. When children become teenagers, they question the values of their parents. This is a part of growing up what help teenagers stabilize their own values. The most teenagers and I are too rely on my parents more for guidance (руководство) and advice than on my problems.
