Weather and climat

  1. Now let’s talk about weather and climate. What is happening to weather and climate nowadays?

It has been said that “climate is what you expect; weather is what you get”.

The climate of an area or country is known through the average weather over a long period of time. If an area has more dry days throughout the year than wet days, it would be described as a dry climate, a place which would make it known to have a cold climate.

Our planet Earth is the only place fit for living so far. In the past people used to live in harmony with nature and didn’t interfere with its processes. However, with industrial and technological progress and the development of civilization the situation has changed dramatically.

There are so many problems people have to deal with and find a solution to. These are acid rains, water, air and soil contamination, deforestation and rare species extinction, destruction of the ozone layer and global warming, urban sprawl, etc.

The most dangerous pollution for weather and climate is air pollution. One of the greatest challenges caused by air pollution is global warming, an increase in the Earth’s temperature due to the buildup of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. As the heat cannot escape, the temperature on the Earth is running up. This is known as global warming. Global warming may result in the melting of the ice at the Poles and rising of sea levels, leading to serious flooding and other disasters in any parts of the world. In other places, temperatures will rise and there will be less rain, turning more of the land into desert.

  1. Are you weather dependent?

If you are talking about my mood I will say “Yes”, if you are talking about my physical state – the answer will be “No”. in sunny weather I can do everything pretty good and fast, but when the weather is cloudy or rainy, I’m upset. I only want to sleep and can do nothing very well.

  1. What questions would you ask a meteorologist?
  1. What factors help you to forecast the weather?
  2. Is it difficult to make a true weather forecast?
  3. Is it possible to forecast the weather at home?
  4. What do meteorologists do?
  5. Where do they work?
  6.  How often are you mistaken?
  7. Have you any punishment for your mistakes?
  1. What can you advise a person who wants to become a meteorologist?

A meteorologist is a person with special education “who uses scientific principles to explain, understand, observe or forecast the Earth’s atmospheric phenomena and/ or how the atmosphere affects the Earth and life on the planet”. This education usually includes a bachelor’s or higher degree from a college or university. Many meteorologists have degrees in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and other fields.

The broader term “atmospheric science” often is used to describe the combination of meteorology and other branches of physical science that are involved in studying atmosphere.

So, I can advise a person to study physics.

  1. They say there’s no bad weather, there are bad clothes. What do you think about it?

In my view a person’s life depends on a certain degree on the climatic condition he lives in. though the English say “There’s no bad weather, there are bad clothes”, in reality bad weather influences our mood, emotions and even the physical state. Moreover, the economy of whole countries and their agriculture are determined by the climate.

Here in Belarus we don’t talk much about the weather, we just take it as it is.

As we live in the western part of Europe, the seasons here have their specific features, both attractive and unpleasant. Every season is beautiful in its way. We should choose the right clothes to wear in order to be healthy and feel comfortable and warm. In my view, modern designers create nice and comfortable clothes. So we can choose the clothes we like and enjoy any kind of weather.

  • Actually, the English sayings about weather are numerous. And there is an objective reason for the popularity of this topic. The English weather on the whole is the naughtiest thing in the world. It’s because of the geographical position of the British Isles. Nevertheless people try to adopt themselves to the weather so as to live in harmony with it. And sometimes they even make use of the situation having an opportunity to change their clothes more often.

Though O.Wilde said “Whenever people talk to me about the weather, I always feel certain that they mean something else”.

Personally I think each weather or season of the year possesses its own charm, has its own beauty and significance to man.
