Types of houses

  1. Let’s talk about different types of houses. Tell me about your dream house.

Nowadays most people live in urban areas. Towns and cities are spreading into their surrounding environment to cope with the increase population.

As far as I know, more people are buying their own houses or flats than in the past. Others live in houses or flats they rent from private landlords, the local council or housing association.

My family lives in a block of flats. I think that it is the cheapest type of dwelling in any town. Flats can be of different sizes: one-roomed, two-roomed, three-roomed, so one can choose what they like. If you are going to live alone, you can prefer a studio to a large apartment. Among advantages of living in a block of flats some people name the fact that it takes less time to tidy up a flat than a house. But living in a flat has its disadvantages. Your neighbours can make a lot of noise when they hammer or drill the wall or set a party. I can say that all these disadvantages don’t bother me much and it is a good type of housing. The largest part of population in out country lives in blocks of flats.

The ideal house for me is a detached house. Living in a detached house gives you a lot of advantages. Your neighbours do not disturb you. As you have some land around the house, you can build a garage, a padding pool and arrange some flowerbeds.

There are also those who like semi-detached houses or duplexes. To my mind, such houses attract people because they are less expensive than mansions or bungalows and you have only one neighbour as opposed to block of flats. As you have a neighbour, you can always turn to them if toy need something, though from time to time your neighbour can disturb you while repairing their part of the house or listening to music loudly. But in general I am sure that it is quite convenient to live in semi-detached house.

  1. Do you find your city / town/ village a comfortable place for living?

Lepel is our ancient and ever young town.  Lepel is situated in a very picturesque place.  It is surrounded by a beautiful countryside.  My town is a cultural centre of our district: there are 4 schools, college, vocational training schools. Works of both local and Belarusian painters are exhibited in the House of Crafts. And an Arts school plays an important role in the cultural life. We also have a town museum and a sport school, which provides quite good possibilities for physical education. St. Kazimir Cathedral is unique for our town as a historical and architectural monument. It’s became a visit card of our town. Lepel is an important transport centre. It has a modern railway and a bus station. My city is beautiful in every part of a day, in every season. When I hear the word “Lepel’’feel something warm and special. I’m never indifferent while speaking about it because deep respect and love towards it fill my heart.  Lepel is part of me.

  1. What questions will you ask your friend who is going to move about his/ her new home?
  1. Where are you going to move?
  2. What advantages do you find in city/ country life?
  3. Could you leave me your address?
  1. If your parents ask for your opinion where to move: to the city or to the country, what would you recommend them to do?

Some people and I am too prefer to live in the country either in a small comfortable cottage or in a large farm house. The way I see things is that people who prefer this type of dwelling really adore nature and they want to have calm life. Usually such people keep the poultry and the cattle. One of the advantages of living in such a house is that you have your own land where you can grow fruit and vegetables, make flowerbeds and plant beautiful flowers. You can also build some out-houses like greenhouse, a garage and a tool shed. But the greatest disadvantage of living in a farmhouse or in a cottage , in my opinion, is that it takes much time to get to the nearest town. On the other hand, if you have a car it will not be difficult for you.

I am charmed with the speed of city life and great possibilities it gives. Living in a big cities is more anonymous. You can be what toy want to be and do what you want to do without anybody getting upset about it. Whereas in the country almost everybody knows you and expects you to live and behave in a certain way.

Big cities are beautiful. They look modern with their tall buildings, interesting architecture and design. City dwellers are sociable and communicative. In fact, in a big city you have a much wider range of people to choose from and to make friends with.

  1. What type of house would you prefer to live in? Why?

Personally I like living in my own house. In future I would like to live in a two-stored cottage with a garage and a swimming pool. There would be a lot of place for my children’s games and their rest. My relatives and friends can come to my cottage and have parties, sing karaoke or speak on different topics.
